Abstract

Needless to say, one of the main issues on which lies more heat debate in american society has to do with racial and minorities groups. Indeed, one of the core aspects for dealing with this dynamic demographic feature in the US are, precisely, the increasingly important role devoted to the development of programs, policies and actions based on racial affirmative action with regard to some structures and institutions in the USA . According with this framework, we try to analyze the impact of affirmative action policies in the field of US higher education. In doing so, we depart from the national on- going debate opened by a Caucasian student called Abigail Fisher that, after been rejected from the 2008 entering class, she filed a suit against the University of Texas at Austin. So, we seek to account for the political and pedagogical variables arising from this case, and in particular to better understand the impact and scope of the so-called affirmative action policies in the US Colleges
