Resumen

La demencia es una condición de salud progresiva, que afecta a un número creciente de personas, caracterizada por el deterioro cognitivo y por la presencia de síntomas neuropsiquiátricos que limitan las actividades de la vida diaria y disminuyen la calidad de vida de la persona. Esta revisión sistemática tiene como objetivo analizar las investigaciones relacionadas con el impacto que tienen las intervenciones en artes visuales en la salud y el bienestar de las personas con demencias. Se ha realizado la revisión utilizando las bases de datos Medline, PsycINFO y Cinahl. De 84 publicaciones encontradas, 18 cumplieron los criterios de inclusión. En los resultados destaca la relevancia actual de la investigación sobre la intervención en artes visuales en la demencia, pero los estudios incluían muestras pequeñas y mostraban importantes debilidades metodológicas. A pesar de todo, la literatura actual sugiere que con los apoyos adecuados las personas con demencia pueden producir y apreciar el arte visual, y mejorar la percepción de bienestar físico y emocional.
