Abstract
The by-laws paáed by the Council of Salamanca during the 15th century and 16th century established a rigid control over the goods that were in circulation in the city. It was obligatory to declare them when they weighed more than six and a quarter pounds, thus establishing a control over the quality of the products and the conditions of hygiene. Moreover, they all had to be weighed on the town weighing machine in San Martin Square
