Abstract
Objective: to evaluate a possible association between the perception that patients have about their affectation of the upper limb and its degree of functional dependence using two standardized assessment instruments. Methods: transversal observational descriptive study in which two assessment tools (DASH questionnaire and Barthel Index ) were used to evaluate a sample of 23 patients from 3 different institutions, subsequently using the SPSS 22.0 statistical package for data processing. Results: the results showed significant differences (p < 0,05) between the scores of the Barthel index and the age distribution of the sample. Likewise, in the correlation established between the assessment tools are not results with statistically significant differences. Conclusion: the perception about involvement of the upper extremities has impact on the degree of functional dependence, although this is not significant.
