Corruzione al palazzo di giustizia is a very controversial play since it calls into question the honesty and efficiency of justice, one of the mainstays of any modern state.  This play opened in Rome in 1949. At that time Italy was experiencing a culminating moment in its role as a frontline state in Europe. Its Spanish translation dates from 1952, during the sixth legislature of the Franco government. At that moment censorship was still valid. In that context, it was quite strange that a man of theater as José Luis Alonso dared to translate and publish a play by Ugo Betti; a play that, read between the lines, might have raised the suspicions of censors.
