Abstract
This study is a text analysis of Muriel Spark's The Ballad of Peckham Rye. It focuses on the use the author makes of two different text types: the ballad and the novel and their corresponding types of language and structures. The essay attempts to show how a highly complex set of linguistic resources are combined and activated by the author to obtain the greatest informativity at the lowest narrative expense.
