Abstract

This paper analyzes the most important aspects of Terry Southern's literary work. Overlooked by the majority of critics, Southern's career is a major contribution to contemporary American literature as representative of what is called "Black Humor" and, also, "New Journalism". Through his novels, articles and screenplays he has been able to shock the American public thanks to an intelligent mixture of sex, chaos, humor and absurd situations and characters.
