Resumen

This work studies the building materials used in the monuments of Olmedo. The mineralogical, textural and physical characteristics of the stone used in the Madre de Dios convent and in the Romanesque doorways of the Santa Maria del Castillo church were determined. The results obtained make it possible to choose suitable materials for the replacement and substitution in the resoration processes. The stone is fine grain, compact and heterogeneous fossiliferous limestone, two varieties being distinguished with differences mainly in porosity. A arkose is found also. It should be noted that both varieties show an important volume of pores below the critical size of 5 mieras, where destruction by the cyclic action of ice is greater
