Résumé
TIIe expression "Saltos del Duero", ordrops ofthe Duero,usually refers fo fhe hydro-e/ectric planf ofRicobayo, in fhe province ofZamora, which began producing e/ectricity in 1934. TIIe productíon of hydro-e/ectric power on the ríver Duero, however, began more than thírty years earlier with the constructíon of the San Román de los Infantes hydro-e/ectric project, near Zamora,whích began functioning in 1902. It supplied e/ecfricity to the cities ofZamora, Toro, Valladolid and Salamanca, as well as other villages. In 19511berduero acquired the San Román de los Infantes hydro-e/ectric plant and, after being modernised at the end of the 1960's, it is still working, after more than 100 years. The engineer Federico Cantero Vil/amil was the person responsíble for this first hydro-e/ectric plant, also known as "El Porvenir de ZamoraH after the name of the company which was founded for its construction and operation. Cantero also contributed to the lafer hydro-electric development of the Duero wíth his hydro-electríc ventures and technical cooperatíon.
