Abstract
Acute dyspnea is one of the most frequent reasons for clinical consultation and includes a large number of diseases, some with major clinical consequences. Main symptom of heart failure is dyspnea. In acute dyspnea the fundamental problem is determining whether the origin is cardiac or not. This protocol summarizes the aspects of clinical history, physical examination and complementary tests that can provide clues about the cause of acute dyspnea, focusing on their differences with dyspnea of respiratory origin.
