Zusammenfassung
The aim of this paper is to analyze the way in which technological activity is organized in Spanish innovative companies. Founded on a comprehensive literature review of previous theoretical and empirical research, an original proposal to characterize the innovative process is presented. Such scheme distinguishes six qualitative characteristics: objectives, methods of generation, types of R&D, sources of information, ways of appropriation of the results and types of innovations. This scheme is applied on a sample of 152 Spanish innovative companies, thus providing evidence of the type of innovative process followed by Spanish firms. The paper also shows the existence of significant differences in the innovative process according to the developed types of innovations.
