Abstract

Abstract Chronic thromboembolic pulmonary hypertension (CTEPH) is a type of pulmonary hypertension that is potentially curable. It is considered to form a part of the spectrum of venous thromboembolic disease. The majority of times it is a complication arising from an unresolved pulmonary thromboembolism, and it is often under-diagnosed. It is a pathology that involves professionals in several fields, in Primary Care as well as Specialists, so that it is even more necessary to protocolise its management and treatment than is the case in other pathologies. The emergence of new specific treatments, as well as improvements in surgical techniques that make it possible to operate more patients and the promising results of pulmonary angioplasty, mean that this pathology now has a far better prognosis than was the case some years ago, and many patients may even be cured.
