Abstract

Abstract Cardiovascular diseases have become this century's primary cause of morbidity and mortality. The more than seven million acute myocardial infarctions that occur annually, with below 10% mortality thanks to the major medical advances of recent decades, place us with a scenario in which we must take part. Despite this, up to 25% of these fatal events continue to be «sudden deaths». A 50% risk associated with physical activity has been described. We understand, therefore, the need to establish the appropriate recommendations for our patients to ensure safe and adapted sports practice. Adapted sports are indicated for a great many heart diseases, and are a fundamental pillar of both primary and secondary prevention. However, we must not lose sight of the fact that there are certain heart disorders where, due to the high risk of potential fatal events, sports activities are contraindicated to varying degrees.
