Abstract
The theory of literature has thought reading from almost exclusively intellectualist positions, as if reading was only or primarily a cognitive activity. But semiotics and contemporary social sciences, and particularly anthropology and sociology are restoring the body, that is the senses and emotions, to its centrality in most cultural practices, among them reading. This article tries to balance the two modes of conceiving the act of reading: although he pays special attention to the second, the sensory and emotional one, it does so on the basis of the cognitive mode, in order to move towards a potential integration of both.
