Outcome with conventional chemotherapy and radiotherapy on peripheral T-cell lymphoma (PTCL) is poor and worst than obtained in the correspondent aggressive B-cell lymphomas. However, results in the salvage setting (consolidated with autologous stem-cell transplantation) are similar to B-cell aggressive lymphomas. With these data in mind it is reasonable to evaluate the role of ASCT in PTCL both as frontline and salvage treatment. We present data from two retrospective studies (one in first complete response and other in the salvage setting with 74 and 124 patients, respectively) and one phase II prospective clinical trial of frontline consolidation with ASCT in chemosensitive status after MegaCHOPx4 or after early rescue (MegaCHOPx3 / IFEx2) if a complete response gallium-negative was not obtained after the first induction with MegaCHOPx3.
