Zusammenfassung

The twenty-five years between the régime of General Franco's dictatorship and the present moment were strongly affected by three relevant laws of Education (L.G.E. in 1970, L.O.D.E. in 1985 and L.O.G.S.E. in 1990) which offer an important amount of general and specific data about the Spanish political transition. The English language also went through a number of changes which place it at the beginning of the new century as a new "lingua franca" contributing to diminish the communicative distances in this "global village". Through a comparative analysis of the English language in our educative system in this particular period of our history we have tried to draw a number of conclusions which aim to understand the English language as a powerful vehicle for social education as well as a source of collective learning
