Resumen

In this work we describe the theoretical criteria that guided the process of the construction of a Visualization test, whose items were generated from a Surfaces Development task. This test was applied to samples of first-year Engineering students of the Polytechnic School of the University of Sao Paulo and the Paulista State University (Guaratinguetá Campus). The item difficulty was estimated using the Rasch model. We observed that the item difficulty is associated to a task condition involved in the ability of mentally transforming the objects and of maintaining active the spatial information during the transforming process. Also we verify the usefulness of this test in diagnosing the students performance in the Technical Drawing discipline.
