Abstract

Studies in Criminology in Spain have had a constant success and evolution. That studies began as proper title at different universities, then followed many others. Finally emerging as second-cycle degree and later with adaptation to European Higher Education Area, became university degrees in 2009-2010. Initially there were five universities began to teach this degree to which were incessantly adding other Spanish academic institutions. As expected, this evolution in supply and demand of these studies, is that different specialized masters and doctoral programs have been appearing. In addition, because of the interdisciplinary nature of this science, there are graduates in other degrees such as Law, interested in Criminology. Our study aims to confirm whether this development and increasing interest has had a true reflection in the production and defense of doctoral theses with the primary or secondary topic about criminology, in the Spanish universities. First, a quantitative study of doctoral theses those that directly or tangentially about some criminological aspect for the past eleven academic years from 2004-2005 was when started the second-cycle degree in Criminology, until 2014-2015, last academic year we could collect data on the date of the study. Second, the collected sample was also analyzed from other points of view in order to provide a more concrete of this type of academicians works.
