Resumen

In the Sierra Grande de San Luis (Sierras Pampeanas, San Luis province, Argentina), a back-analysis stability of Nogoli rock slide has been carried out with PcStabl 6.0 (equilibrium limit stability program, Purdue University, School of Civil Engineering, United States o f America). Colluvial deposits accumulation in a depressed area of the bed rocks, strong rain periods in an arid to semiarid region and strongly fractured and moderately weathered rocks, contribute to precarious stability conditions. The excavation works of a new road across Sierra Grande de San Luis (Nogolí - Rio Negro) is finally interpreted to be the fact which originated the Nogoli rock slide (88.000 to 100.000 cubic meters). In a first analysis, homogeneous resistant parameters from Bieniawski geomechanic classification were considered, but no slide conditions were obtained. It is concluded that slide surface uses one or several of the discontinuity families of the massif.
