Resumen

The Truchas Synclinal (NW Iberian Variscan Belt) consist of a slate domain built up by metamorphic rocks (dominantly slates and sandstones) under low grade metamorphic conditions that of Casaio, Rozadais and Losadilla formations. The main tectonic structures are subsequent to the three main deformative phases o f the Variscan Orogeny in the area. Geotechnical tests carried on samples with cleavage parallel to the main strength applied are compared to know the effect of that cleavage on the behaviour of these rocks. Cleavage has an important control in the facility to split slates, which is the most important property, and who determinates the industrial application of these rocks. Uniaxial and triaxial stress conditions, point load and indirect tensile strength have been measured in these materials. Ultrasonic propagation velocities measured are observed to be the best test to classified slates into classes of facility to split.
