Abstract

In his On the eternal in man (1921), Max Scheler puts forward, according to the suggestions made four years earlier by Rudolf Otto in his The idea of the holy, a phenomenology of religion based on the analysis of the religious “act” or religious experience. According to it, from the very analysis of the mentioned act, the existence of a personal God could be proved. Scheler’s proposal is considered and evaluated within its historical context.
