Abstract
This article compares the figures of Enrique of Aragon, marquis of Villena, and Merlin. There developed in the Middle Ages an antichivalric image of both (motivated by Merlin ́s prophetic and adivinatory activities and Villena ́s literary and scientific endeavors) based on their diabolic characteristics. The marginal position occupied by both is explained through late medieval chivalric, cultural, religious and political ideas and concepts.
