Abstract

High and low resolution calcareous nannofossll analyses were carried out in the San MiguelTorremendo basin identifying the Martini's standard zone NN1, Messinian. The observation of new species and morphotypes and their stratigraphic range in the region improve the standard biostratigraphic pattern. An interval with "marked cyclic oscillations" in the calcareous nannofossil assemblage, as well as an increase in the abundance of Geminilithella jafari in the top the section, announce the "salinity crisis".
