Abstract

Since the end of the last century, several social, economic and political events (the creation of the Camões Institute, the economic emergence of Brazil, the birth of MERCOSUR, etc.) have converged to promote the expansion of Portuguese not only in the former colonies but beyond the borders of the Lusophone countries.
