Abstract
The development of information literacy skills is considered a key competence for all citizens of the 21st century. Given the emergence of this need, and the lack of serious diagnostic studies on the level of mastery of these competences by the students of secondary education, this work poses an initial evaluation of this level of mastery, in order to establish future educational actions in this collective. We work with a sample of 619 secondary education students through nonprobabilistic sampling, and a validated information competency assessment tool is applied. The results show how, while in general the levels of mastery of competences are low, students reach lower levels in the evaluation dimension, while in the search for information is where they reach the highest levels. The work concludes by highlighting the importance of this type of diagnostic work in order to establish educational training actions more adapted to the needs existing in each context.
