Abstract

This paper reviews fauna discovered by J. M. Barandiarán’s excavations at the site of Marizulo (Urnieta, Gipuzkoa) in the 1960s. The remains were first studied by J. Altuna in the same decade. The fauna reviewed here comes from the Mesolithic levels (Level II and III) and includes different mammal species (above all, red deer, but also wild boar and roe deer), marine molluscs gathered on both rocky and sandy/muddy substrates, and small samples of terrestrial snails and crustaceans (barnacles). Taphonomic, biometric and spatial distribution studies have been carried out, in addition to the identification and quantification of the remains.
