Resumen

An integrated study of the Contourite deposits of the middle slope of the Gulf of Cadiz is presented in thiswork; related to both the Quaternary seismic stratigraphy analysis and its chronostratigraphy specially ofthe major discontinuities. We have used data from medium resolution profiles (Sparker), deep oil company cores and nannofossils biostratigraphic. The main Quaternary seismic units (Q1-Q4) have been correlated with the sedimentological and stratigraphic core data. The results obtained by the seismic and micropaleontologic analyses revealed', by the first time, a chronologic framework in which the discontinuities QD, MPR and MIS12 correspond in age with the base of the Quaternary, the mid of the Pleistocene and the Late Pleistocene. Chronostratigraphic framework allow us to identified that the maindiscontinuities are related to regional erosive stages by the more interaction of the Mediterranean Outflow Water during the cold climatic and lowstand periods. Nevertheless, the main contourite deposition took place during the transition from warm to cold periods and for instant from regressive to lowstands periods.
