Abstract

This paper describes the mineralogical and chemical characteristics of the Herbeira (NW Spain) chromite mineralization. This mineralization occurs as lensoid-type bands of disseminated and massive chromites of up to 30 cm thick and several metres long in highly serpentinized dunite facies of the Herbeira ultramafic Massif (Cabo Ortegal Complex). The Crspinel mineral phase is Al-rich and Fe+3-poor, and transitional between the magnesiochromite and chromite end members of the chromite series.
