Abstract

Reinoso del Cerrato landslide is one of the large rotational landslides observed in the central area of the Duero Basin (Spain). On this work results of the geological study carried out on the materials involve in the instability as well as the geotechnical characterization of the levels on the slip surface are presented. Taking into account the shear strength properties obtained in laboratory and the landslide slip surface position, a limit-equilibrium stability analysis has been carry out trying to explain nowadays reactivations. At present, a mini-hydroelectrical power station is being constructed, and that will cause 4,2 meters rise of the water level in the nearest area to the reactivations. Even though this civil construction could stabilize the slope, a potential risk exists related with a rapid drawdown of the reservoir level that could reactivate the landslide.
