Avances en metodología de evaluación de estudiantes en Habilidades Clínicas y Quirúrgicas Básicas (HCQB) en Medicina

Abstract

In this paper we present the results of an innovation project (2007-11), about teaching and learning of clinical and basic surgical skills in medicine, in collaboration with the Institute of Education Sciences. We present the design and development of a training program, as well as the evolution in the process of construction and validation of these assessment tools of these skills, techniques based on direct observation. The phases of the project were the following: Design of a clinical-surgical practice, based on the simulation-face with the support of a network teaching platform (Moodle), development of measurement tools before and after inoculation of the program and analysis and discussion of results. The results of the assessment of the acquisition of technical skills through observation, using as instrument control lists have been very favourable according to the results in previous courses. There were signs that seem to support the hypothesis that the application of the methodology with the use of virtual teaching promotes learning of that skill. Learning outcomes are positive, but there were some technical problems in relation to the causes of the variability of skills and evaluators. Today we can correlate the competition in basic surgical gestures, but in the future, with technological advances, perhaps we can get to certify and accredit and validate new surgeons to surgeons in practice. It proposes the need for centers specializing in the development and evaluation of such medical skills. Finally, it seems important to encourage research activities to evaluate these educational tools and clinical implementation.
