Abstract
Unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs or drones) represent a useful tool for the performance of aerial works in the field of geology and earth sciences. The possibility of including a wide variety of sensors such as photographic cameras, LiDAR, thermal or multispectral cameras, etc., facilitates data acquisition rapid and efficiently, reducing costs and processing time. In addition, real time data management, allows the correction or planning during the flight. The production of high-resolution digital models provides qualitative and quantitative geo-referenced information. Moreover, the combination of scientific data and educational resources through the generation of photorealistic 3D models, facilitates the dissemination of geological heritage, helping at their preservation. These data can be included in applications and digital platforms to promote education, geoturism, geoparks, etc., facilitating the distribution of its content.
