Resumen

This article deals with certain recurrent phonetic and phonological phenomena in the speech of native English learners of Portuguese, as follows: 1. production of [l] and [m] in syllable-final position, 2. absence of vowel nasalization; 3. substitution of the flap [] for the retroflex [] and 4. spelling pronunciation. The corpus was compiled using data from interviews with five learners: three Americans, one English and one Irish. Segmental aspects of their pronunciation were contrasted with the city of São Paulo’s variety of Portuguese
