Abstract

The engravings were one of the most suitable formats to disseminating ideological postulates. The figure of Teresa de Jesus undergoes a different treatment as her iconography was created and configured to serve the needs of propaganda and the advancement of successive processes of beatification and canonization. The transfer from the theoretical to the iconographic field is intentionally accompanied by the introduction of visual elements in the representations while others disappear, and attitudes and staging are developed. In this paper, the formation, transformation and evolution of the mystical writer iconography is analyzed, with special consideration given to the role played by the engravings in the process.
