Abstract

This research is based on a specific thematic axis: Federico Chueca and Joaquín Valverde and his zarzuela La Gran Vía. Our interest is not related to a strictly formal analysis of the work, but rather to the study of the behaviors and the conduct attributed to the female characters by the composers according to their social and gender condition. Beyond the pertinent contextualization of the authors, the creative process and the content of this zarzuela, we will go deeper into the analysis of the relationship between the musical characterization and the plot. The female characters become, therefore, our main object of study.
