Resumo

In this article, the hydrogen assisted fatigue propagation (a kind of corrosion-fatigue phenomenon) is studied in corner cracks at holes located in plates under tensile loading, comparing the results with those obtained in the propagation by fatigue in air. To this end, numerical modeling has been carried out to evaluate the advance of the crack front based on the Paris equation and the stress intensity factors obtained by Raju and Newman for the case studied. The results show that the cracks in their growth tend toward a preferential propagation path that depends on the hole radius and the environment. In addition, the effect of the presence of the stress concentrator on the preferential fatigue propagation path is more pronounced in the crack growth by fatigue in air than in the crack growth by corrosion-fatigue.
