Résumé

In this work, the stress intensity factor (SIF) has been obtained along the front of great-depth elliptical cracks, located in finite-thickness plates subjected to tension. The study variables have been the plate length, the crack configuration (embedded, superficial or corner), the crack aspect ratio and the way of applying the stress (imposed displacement or applied tensile load). The SIF was calculated from the integral J, obtained by the finite element method (FEM). The results show that the greatest variations of the SIF with the plate length of the plate are obtained for cracks with small aspect ratios, presenting the largest differences the corner configuration and the smallest ones the embedded. By increasing the plate length, the SIF rises when the plate is under imposed displacement and decreases when the plate is subjected to applied tensile load, both cases tending towards the same SIF curves.
