Résumé
Throughout Modern period the Spanish Crown increased its efforts to maintain control of the northern border of New Spain. Ambition and imagination led the Spanish people to seek a better life in the north of that frontier. The threat of foreign powers, and especially the nomadic tribes, caused the disquiet of the population and the Spanish administration, which sought alternatives to solve this problem during the Modern period. The most effective was the creation of a network of presidios, a system that was perfected to finally constitute the main instrument of defense, protection, supply and settlement.
