Abstract

In this paper the object of this study is the minor colleges linked to the major Castilian universities: Salamanca, Valladolid and Alcalá during the Early Modern Age. Historiography has tended to the monographic and individual studies of them, without establishing relations between them, so that the existence of similarities and/or differences between these institutions that appear in the main university cities of Modern Castile is unknown. Ending this historiographic gap is the main objective of this research. To do this, from a comparative perspective, the works of specialists in the filed such as L. Sala Balust in the Salamanca case, M. Torremocha Hernández for the Valladolid and M. Casado Arboniés and other regarding the Complutenses are analyzed and reviewed. Likewise, taking into account the results obtained, the functionality of these centers is reflected and contributions are made to the question of whether the members of the university minor colleges of Modern Castile only received support and educational complements from these institutions.
