Zusammenfassung

An analytical model is presented to predict the residual lifetime of gas pipelines taking into account the effect of soil corrosion and materials degradation. The model considers a part-through semi-elliptical crack in the pipe wall and assumes a timedependent propagation law to account for environmental effects, so that a system has to be solved of partial differential equations to predict the crack shape evolution with time. Results demonstrate that the residual lifetime of the pipe strongly depends on the initial operation time.
