Abstract

Current approaches in the research on retirement. The main purpose of this article is to gather the main approaches in the study of retirement among workers. Considered the last phase in the work life, retirement grows great interest among social sciences researchers. Among the issues of interest we can point out decision making processes on retirement, role theory, practices carried out from human resources departments and the influence of group norms. Besides, other issues related to retirement phase are general well being, health status or income level. In this line, some studies reveal that those individuals with enough incomes and showing health problems will enter retirement before than those who have not enough incomes or show good health. In this paper some descriptive studies considering different stages within retirement are also presented. Finally, some future lines of investigation on this topic are suggested
