Abstract
This paper analyzes the relationship between rural depopulation and the persistence of popular traditions. From the implementation of qualitative and quantitative methodology, the first results of this research have found that the rural exodus has caused a deep demographic crisis in the region of Valdebecedas (Avila, Spain) that has left their villages on the edge of depopulation. Consequently, this process of rural depopulation seems to lead in the near future to the extinction of Valdebecedas communities and the inexorable loss of their rituals of collective identity, just like the case of the Canto of Ramo.
