Abstract

The use of Gothic forms in the architecture of the Modern Age, in spite of having been considered a symptom of archaism, constitutes a habitual resource that must be understood from the freedom of choice on the part of its promoters, the conscious search of the structural coherence of a pre-existing building or as a means to identify a construction with specific values that are intended to exalt. This versatility allowed its survival until well into the eighteenth century, forming a rich heritage that has, in the Burgalese context and, particularly, in the Ribera del Duero environment, some of its most notable examples.
