Zusammenfassung
This paper argues that translations represent a legitimate instrument for conducting the analysis of a synchronic state of a language, to the extent that they provide relevant data about structures that are accepted or rejected outright by the translator. This methodological decision seems to be especially productive in the case of Spanish and Portuguese whose linguistic structures are frequently parallel and follow the same historical development, albeit not always with identical chronology. Thus, the paper aims to assess the linguistic options chosen individually by the translator to complete the translation of Crónica Troyana from Spanish to Portuguese as a way to distinguish some aspects of the linguistic situation of Portuguese language around the mid-16th century.
