Resum

Humanity has gone through all kinds of catastrophes, wars and epidemics throughout history; the latter being very serious due to the large number of deaths caused. In relation to those caused by virus infections, masks began to be used a long time ago to cover the mouth and nose, and avoid or try to prevent such infections (although they would begin to be used in an ordinary way for reasons of hygiene). However, the epidemics caused by coronavirus, and especially the current COVID-19 pandemic, spreading throughout the world, have been generalizing its use, as it is considered a non-pharmacological, preventive and very useful measure for fight against the virus, along with other measures (pharmacological and non-pharmacological). In Spain, however, its recommendation for use and then its mandatory nature, by the National Government, has been the subject of very erratic and changing public decisions, being sometimes contradictory, with very fast normative modifications, whose analysis is carried out chronologically in this work, and sometimes with little scientific sense.
