Abstract

The objective of this work is to outline a framework of Data Science as a transversal competence to be incorporated in Secondary Education. Data Science is emerging as a key capacity for today’s society and, therefore, it is a competence that should be incorporated into education. The methodology followed is based on a bibliographic review of the existing professional frameworks to be able to make a prototype adapted to education and on the survey on public knowledge and perception of Data Science. Spanish citizens are more familiar with the concept of Artificial Intelligence than with that of Big Data and the level of interest that Artificial Intelligence arouses is greater than that of Big Data, although with little difference. The perceived benefits outweigh the risks in most applications of both technologies. Based on this, the beginning of a framework for competence in Data Science that would be applied from Secondary Education is proposed. Young people should be trained to understand how data is acquired and used in the world, orienting themselves to achieving more complete professional profiles.
