Abstract
Although the correspondence between Alfonso de Cartagena and Pier Candido Decembrio has already been collected and published, we examine on this occasion the marginalia inserted by Decembrio in his Epistolary (especially codex Riccardiano 827), in the context of the translation and ordinatio process of his Latin version of Plato’s Republic and his intellectual exchange with the Castilian bishop. We also review some letters involving Ambrogio Traversari, superior of the Camaldolese order, and the Archbishop of Milan, Francesco Pizolpasso, in order to shed light on the translation and dissemination of Greek texts in the historical context of the Council of Basel.
