Abstract

Studies on the cultural and political influence of the First World War in Spain has been a promising research ¡eld in the latest years. This is why, the aim of this article is to determine the nature of this influence in the Spanish socialist political culture. Assessing the way socialists accepted and defended the Allied side, which must be placed in its national and international context, may allow us to clarify the impact of the First World Wat on the socialist political cul-ture. The works of Juan A. Meliá (1882-1970), one of the most distinctive socialist intellectuals in the second decade of the twentieth century in Spain, has been used as the main source of my investigation, since we can consider his journalistic and intellectual activity a clear example of the support to the Allies among socialists.
