Sexual Double Standard (SDS) and the exposure to Online Sexual Material are topics of considerable current importance. However, there is still a lack of knowledge about how the use of sexual material on the Internet impacts our intimate relationships. The aim of the present Thesis was: to analyze the level of internalization of SDS in a sample of university students, to investigate the SDS changes produced along the time, and to study the influence of the online sexual material consumption on the sexual patterns internalization regarding gender. The research was conducted in two phases. Firstly, the differences between genders in the SDS levels of 531 students were analyzed throughout the years 2015-2019. In the second phase, it was studied how the online sexual material consumption contributes to the SDS of 483 students. Other variables, such as empathy and intimate partner violence, are included to understand the impact of the investigated phenomenon. An instrument (CSRI-1) was specifically designed to analyze the patterns of online sexual material consumption. A theoretical model, useful to interpret the relationships encountered, was proposed and statistically verified. Results reveal that the SDS has been drastically reduced in both genders, and that students show progressively more egalitarian standards. A direct relationship is found between the online sexual material consumption and SDS, and violence in intimate relationships. Sexual material consumption is considered a risk factor, which contributes to sexism and violence. Empathy is formed as a protective variable, which reduces the influence of the visualized material on our relationships.
