Abstract

There is a lot of literature about disorders resulting from traumatic brain injuries at basic cognitive processes (attention, memory) and upper (reasoning, decision making), however it is more difficult to find information about emotional processing and the rehabilitation. Although cerebral lateralization of emotion is far from certain, several studies support the specialization of the right hemisphere and how their disruption causes difficulties in emotional expression and recognition. This research is designed to determine the effectiveness of a recognition and expression emotional training in patients with right hemispheric injury in which emotional processing can be altered and negatively influencing on anxiety, depression, self-esteem and emotional regulation. Eight women with cerebrovascular right injury were assessed using the Diagnostic Assessment of Nonverbal AFECT 2-adult Faces (DANVA2-AF), the Anxiety and Depression Scale Hospital (HADS), the SelfEsteem Scale Rosemberg (EAR) and emotional regulation Questionnaire (ERQ) and four of them were trained with Training Program Emotional Processing while the other ones did not receive such training. After receiving the training, they were evaluated again in the same way as at the beginning in order to analyze the differences between the Pre and Post evaluation in both groups and the differences between the experimental group and the control group. The results do not allow accepting the initial hypothesis, therefore we can not conclude that this training improves the emotional processing of these patients although the discovered limitations may help future research to analyze the importance of training in the recognition and emotional expression in the rehabilitation of these patients
