Abstract

This villa located in the interior of Hispania, although not completely known, is famous for its spectacular dimensions and for its mosaic pavements. Due to these characteristics, as well as the richness of the imported materials found, it is thought there is a link with illustrious people of the Late Roman age and even with the imperial government family of that period. A revision into the background of a sector of the mosaic located in the Sala Triconque has induced us to propose a reinterpretation of the characters represented there. The comparison of the dates in written sources with the design of the figurative repertoire in this mosaic leads us to believe that, in this case, the dominus of the villa might have been the general Stilicho.
